We celebrate the Ukrainian-born violinist, Leonid Kogan, a legendary representative of the Soviet violin school. Successor of Oistrakh as laureate of the Queen Elisabeth competition, authorized by the authorities to tour and record in the West, he did not get the international recognition his dazzling talent should have granted him. He left nonetheless an amazing collection of recordings, among which we highlight the concertos (by Prokofiev, Beethoven, Mozart, Vivaldi…) recorded under the baton of Charles Bruck, Otto Ackermann or André Vandernoot. This collection notably includes a performance of Bach’s concerto for two violins in which Kogan teams up with his wife Elizabeth Gilels.
