Johann Christian Bach, or the “Bach of London” as he was nicknamed after moving to the court of George III, didn’t go down as the most successful of Johann Sebastian’s sons compared to Carl Philip Emmanuel. Nonetheless, he was a notable influence on future musicians, particularly Mozart to whom he taught composition for a few months. His innovative keyboard concertos, here performed by Luciano Sgrizzi on a beautiful Neupert fortepiano, have an unrivalled melodic charm.
