Gervase de Peyer, as founder of the Melos Ensemble and creator of numerous works, was deeply committed into modern chamber music. This 1973 album gathers various works where clarinet is given a central place, from the very interesting but rarely recorded trio by Aram Khachaturian to a suite of Milhaud after a Jean Anouilh’s play The Traveler without Luggage. As a grand finale, the memorable Overture on Hebrew Themes by Prokofiev, a splendid example of inclusion of klezmer music into the classical tradition!
