September 11th will mark fifty years since the great soprano Martha Angelici passed way. The Corsican singer was a great figure of the lyrical stages in France between the 1930s and the 1950s, notably as a member of the Opéra-Comique company. She triumphed notably in the operas by Bizet, and Micaëla from Carmen was one of her signature roles. We can hear her moving rendition in this historical version conducted by André Cluytens with other masters of this golden era of French singing, such as Michel Dens, or Solange Michel in the main role.
