Geoffrey Burgon

The last digital album of our retrospective dedicated to the countertenor James Bowman (who passed away in March) is a collection of vocal cycles by Geoffrey Burgon. The British composer remains very famous among a wide non-classical audience for his works for cinema and television: Nunc dimittis, the only instrumental piece of this album, was made popular as an original composition for the 1979 series Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy with Alec Guinness. But Burgon was also committed to the classical tradition and his legacy includes numerous beautiful and very accessible pieces for the voice. He dedicated various works to his friend James Bowman, who recorded this collection teaming up with fellow countertenor Charles Brett.
