Dumage, D’Agincourt, Dandrieu & Clérambault: Suites pour orgue (À l’orgue de la cathédrale Saint-Théodorit d’Uzès)

Pierre Dumage, a discreet organist mostly active in Picardy throughout his lifetime, but who was among the experts supervising the construction of the original organ of Notre-Dame de Paris. His remaining musical legacy is very brief, consisting of a set of nine pieces, but is an absolute milestone of the French organ school of the early 18th-century. Marie-Claire Alain renders these splendid pieces with her usual brilliance, coupling them with other highlights from the same generation of organists (Clérambault, D’Agincourt, Dandrieu). She plays the organ of the Uzès cathedral, which you can see pictured on the artwork: one of the best-preserved instruments from the late 17th-century with its beautifully decorated shutters, it is one of the major instruments in Southern France.
