We're fast approaching Victoria de los Ángeles’ centenary (November 1st, preceded by the release of our physical complete boxset on October 20th), and there are many albums scheduled until then. This week’s release highlights a lesser-known part of the soprano’s repertoire: early music. Accompanied by the ensemble of José María Lamaña, a pioneer Spanish musicologist, she selected a bouquet of medieval, Renaissance and baroque songs from her native Spain, originating from the most famous cancioneros, books of vihuela, or early zarzuelas.
