Giovanni Gabrieli, Andrea Gabrieli, Girolamo Parabosco, Vincenzo Bellavere
A great trailblazer of early music, Michel Corboz rose to fame thanks to the numerous albums he devoted to Monteverdi at the beginning of his career. But he also explored lesser-known music composed in Venice, before and after Monteverdi’s time as maestro di cappella in San Marco. In two volumes, the Dolci frutti series offers rare examples of the music that was composed by the previous generation, in the early stages of madrigal and instrumental music. Notably, it includes the Gabrielis as well as other names that posterity has somewhat eclipsed, such as Parabosco and Bellavere.
