Du Pré brought such searing intensity and radiant joy to her cello playing that, despite a career that was tragically curtailed by multiple sclerosis, continues to impact musicians today.
This luxury boxed set, released in 2007 to mark the 25th anniversary of her death, is a 17-CD treasury uniting du Pré’s entire EMI Classics legacy and includes – for the first time on CD – two Bach sonata movements from her 1962 debut recital recording. Mastered at Abbey Road, the collection also features a 32-page booklet detailing the life and art of du Pré. Included in the collection is her legenedary 1965 recording of the Elgar Cello Concerto in E Minor conducted by Sir John Barbirolli – to which many have described as the definitive” interpretation.
