Édouard Lalo, whose bicentenary is approaching (January 27th), was one of the earliest composers to include foreign folklore into his compositions. His Symphonie espagnole is, notably, full of Spanish motifs. It is an unforgettable showpiece and his greatest success. This fiery performance by Pierre Amoyal, conducted by Paul Paray, is coupled with another folklore-inspired piece, the Norwegian Rhapsody.
