December 10th will mark the bicentenary of composer Theodor Kirchner, a now underrated figure of Romanticism, who was at his time one of the most pivotal representatives of the German artistic life, rubbing shoulders with the musical elite (Brahms, the Schumanns, Grieg…). Inexhaustible explorer of German lieder, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau recorded a selection of Kirchner works after poems by Heine (some of them never recorded otherwise!), as part of this collection dedicated to epigones of Schumann: Robert Franz, Adolf Jensen, Ferdinand Hiller but also Grieg and Rubinstein.
