Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Chick Corea, Friedrich Gulda
Featured artists:
February 9th marks the first anniversary of Chick Corea’s passing. The virtuoso jazz keyboardist shared a close affinity with Friedrich Gulda, himself a jack-of-all-trades pianist, both having recorded together a live album of improvisations in 1982. They reunited the year after to record this beautiful version of the concerto for two pianos under the baton of Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Corea was a great admirer of Mozart (he would record concertos again in a celebrated album with Bobby McFerrin a few years later), and this love exudes from every second of this recording. The album is completed by Corea’s Fantasy and Gulda’s Ping-Pong, compositions for two pianos for which no other recordings exist!
