Jacques Offenbach, Manuel Rosenthal
On request of Leonide Massine, former choreographer of the Ballets russes and principal choreographer of their heirs, the Ballets russes de Monte-Carlo, Manuel Rosenthal composed a ballet from famous themes of Offenbach’s operas, its plot being loosely based on La vie parisienne. This irresistible score alluding mischievously to the hectic Parisian nights of the Second Empire is performed by Rosenthal himself and the Orchestra of the Monte-Carlo opera, where the ballet was premiered in 1938.
