Pierre Boulez, as a leading figure of modern music both as composer and conductor left decisive Stravinsky recordings throughout his long career. His Erato legacy is compiled in this album, which includes Boulez’ high-regarded version of The Nightingale and a series of recordings made with the Ensemble Intercontemporain during the 1980 edition of Paris’ Festival d’automne. Among them can be highlighted Pulcinella (here delivered with a brand new audio cut) which Boulez gives a lovely version, though he had admitted having booed Stravinsky’s neo-classical works in his youth! Also to be noted a fine version of the Soldier’s Tale with a splendid cast made of French figures of theatre: Patrice Chéreau, Antoine Vitez and Roger Planchon.
