“PULSE pays tribute to the hypnotic music of the greatest figures in minimalism,” writes pianist Shani Diluka. Among them are John Adams, Terry Riley, Philip Glass, John Cage, Meredith Monk and Moondog. In addition, the 22 tracks on PULSE embrace a variety of other idioms: traditional music such as Danny Boy and Shenandoah, as reimagined by jazz masters Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett; electronic grooves in the collaboration of French duo Daft Punk with legendary producer and songwriter Giorgio Moroder, and the intricacies of African-American composer Julius Eastman (1940-1990). Diluka is joined for Eastman’s The Holy Presence of Joan d’Arc by musicians from the UK-based Chineke!, Europe’s first majority-Black and ethnically diverse orchestra.
