Modest Mussorgsky, Maurice Ravel, Igor Stravinsky
Second volume of our series dedicated to the stunning Stravinsky recordings made by Riccardo Muti with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the end of the 70s. This album marks the very first collaboration on record between the conductor and the orchestra, closely associated as Muti was later on appointed its music director for more than a decade.
The Firebird Suite impresses by its expressive power and striking sound take. It is coupled with Mussorgsky/Ravel’s Pictures at an Exhibition, which also demonstrates the unique sonic beauty of the orchestra.
