Simon Rattle has long proven skills in French modern music, which this collection of Ravel recordings spanning more than thirty years of his career (conducting the CBSO, the Berliner Philharmoniker and the London Symphony) will brilliantly demonstrate. It presents the most famous works from the Boléro to Ma mère l’oye and L’enfant et les sortilèges and features such talented soloists as Cécile Ousset, Andrei Gavrilov, Magdalena Kožená and the mourned Maria Ewing who passed away at the beginning of this year, who sings a splendid version of Shéhérazade.
