Join opera singer Measha Brueggergosman on a personal journey as she explores the music of her ancestors and performs a powerful selection of freedom songs that came from Africa to North America via the slave trade. Songs of Freedom offers a dynamic stylistic blend of historical documentary, personal quest and musical performance as we follow Measha from her home on the East coast of Canada to the country of her ancestors on the West coast of Africa. Songs of Freedom presents 18 well-known freedom songs including Amazing Grace, Swing Low Sweet Chariot, Go Tell It on the Mountain and Go Down Moses - all arranged with flare and originality by composer/pianist Aaron Davis. Also featured is the Nova Scotia Mass Choir conducted by Marko Simmonds, the Ebenezar Choir of Cameroon and the charismatic young Cameroon vocalist, Sanzy Viany.
