Richard Strauss, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Here is a collection of the horn concertos recorded by a young Dennis Brain during the 78rpm era, some of his very first performances on record. Composed by Mozart and Strauss, they are absolute standards of the repertoire. Brain is surrounded by the most brilliant conductors of their time, Alceo Galliera, Walter Süsskind and Malcolm Sargent.
Fun fact: the conducting is shared on Mozart’s fourth concerto. Sargent arrived late at the recording session, so the Hallé’s concertmaster Laurance Turner assumed the mantle of conductor for one movement!
