A life dedicated to the organ: what could possibly describe better the legacy of Marie-Claire Alain? Born to a family of composers who had built their own domestic organ in their home of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, she went on to complete successful world tours and record one of the most impressive discographies in classical music history. Marie-Claire Alain was surely one of the greatest advocates of organ music in the whole 20th-century.
For the tenth anniversary of her passing (on February 26th), we release a 100-tracks collection of her stunning Erato discography, from masterpieces to obscure works she brought out of oblivion. It includes mostly solo pieces, from Nivers, Bach and Buxtehude to Mendelssohn, Langlais and Messiaen (and of course her brother Jehan) but also concertante works by Handel and Poulenc.
