Wagner’s Walküre was Furtwängler’s legacy, the last recording he completed before passing away in 1954. It would remain the only complete opera he recorded in studio, surrounded for the occasion by an amazing cast of vocal soloists, including Martha Mödl, Leonie Rysanek, Gottlob Frick and Ferdinand Frantz. This album, which the conductor couldn’t even hear the tapes of, was probably meant as the opening album of the first complete studio Ring ever recorded with a consistent cast.
