In celebration of her birthday, EMI Classics released the 5 CD-box "The Sound of Montserrat Caballé", a great portrait of the first "Primadonna assoluta" after Maria Callas.
Montserrat Caballé was born in Barcelona. She studied music and singing technique and had her professional debut in Basel; singing Mimì in Puccini's La Bohème. Not only did she become the first "Primadonna assoluta" after Maria Callas, she also recorded a duet with rock singer Freddie Mercury of Queen.
