Cellist Mstislav Rostropovich was a close friend of the Sergei Prokofiev, who dedicated him his cello sonata and symphony-concerto. In the late 1980s, Rostropovich paid homage to his mentor by recording superb albums with the Orchestre national de France, including War and Peace and the complete cycle of symphonies.
