A leading figure of his instrument during the second half of 20th-century, Gervase de Peyer, was an eminent specialist of chamber music for clarinet, founder of the Melos Ensemble. A very sought-after soloist, he recorded with the finest musicians such as Jacqueline du Pré or Daniel Barenboim. With the young pianist, he gave a beautiful rendition of the two autumnal Brahms sonatas, his melancholic late masterpiece.
