Spanning almost ten years of his tremendous career, the Prokofiev recordings of Frank Peter Zimmermann demonstrate his absolute mastery in all genres (concertante, chamber, and even solo music) and close affinity with the Russian composer. This album gathers all Prokofiev’s works featuring solo violin, from both concertos conducted respectively by Lorin Maazel and Mariss Jansons to the complete works for violin and piano with long-time partner Alexander Lonquich (including a fiery transcription of the march from Love of the Three Oranges). It also includes the sonata for solo violin and the sonata for two violins, for which Zimmermann recorded both parts, overdubbed during the mastering.
