The second solo recital Angela Gheorghiu recorded for EMI Classics caused a sensation when released in 2004 as it gathered excerpts from all the operas of Puccini (except Il tabarro in which we can’t really find a soprano aria standing on its own), highlighting the most famous ones (Un bel dì vedremo, O mio babbino caro…) and rarities from Edgar or La fanciulla del West. The striking voice of Gheorghiu works wonders in this memorable album, featuring Anton Coppola at the baton, and even Roberto Alagna as Calaf in the aria from Turandot.
