The last opera composed by Rameau before his death was Les Boréades. He would never see it staged after its rehearsals were cancelled for obscure reasons. It fell into neglect for more than two centuries before being revived. The mythical aura Les Boréades acquired owes a lot to John Eliot Gardiner, who gave the first concert version in 1975, and finally conducted it on stage in a legendary performance at the 1982 Aix festival. This rendition featuring Jennifer Smith, Philip Langridge, François Le Roux and John Aler captures the magic of this soirée.
