This song is based on the Debussy piece “Pagodes” from Estampes, taking some motives, melody lines and the basic harmonic idea of the piece but adding a new dense yet delicate pattern-like middle ground, which sometimes bursts out to the treble and brings out an almost virtuosic aspect of Cipa’s playing and composing, something he usually refuses to do. A tiny melody that only appears two times in the Debussy original very quietly evolves into a kind of chorus of the new composition, a forte climax that breaks upon the listener. This piece was recorded on a recently manufactured PH bow grand, a very light and soft grand piano.
