Joey Roukens
On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the death of the Dutch composer Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, his compatriot Joey Roukens composed Distorted Fantasia (after J.P. Sweelinck), commissioned by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Roukens interweaves Sweelinck's Fantasia in doric mode, SwWV 259 with new rhythms, harmony and sound effects into a colourful and beautiful new orchestral work. This world premiere marked the Russian conductor Maxim Emelyanychev’s debut with the Concertgebouw Orchestra.
