We are commemorating the violinist David Oistrakh with a splendid CD box set of all his EMI recordings (and and an impressive collection of live, first releases and rarities curated by Bruno Monsaingeon in the second part of the box). These milestone recordings will be made available in the coming few months, remastered for the first time in HD from original tapes, highlighting the unrivalled musicianship of this legendary performer. This week’s album gathers major chamber recordings (Beethoven, Franck, Mozart) performed with his longstanding partner Vladimir Yampolsky. It also includes the famous Devil’s Trill sonata, inspired by a dream Tartini made in which Satan plays a devilish piece on the violin he has been handled by the composer. The stereo version of Mozart and Tartini’s works is made available for the first time to digital partners.
